Flowers Gallery is delighted to collaborate with Wu Jiaru, inviting the artist into a temporary studio in New York for two months.
Through mediums of painting, installations and found objects collected during her recent fellowship with the Asian Cultural Council in New York, Wu Jiaru meticulously unravels the threads woven within the fast-paced urban rhythm of New York, delving into the hidden layers of the enigmatic human experience. The project’s fleeting location in Chinatown reflects a dialogue around identities, constructing an alternative landscape for the Hong Kong-based artist, and a space to create a body of work influenced by new surroundings.
Wu Jiaru (b 1992) received her dual BA degrees in Fine Arts and English Language from Tsinghua University in 2014, and her MFA from the School of Creative Media at City University of Hong Kong in 2017. Her work is in the collections of M+ and the Burger Collection, Hong Kong.
The exhibition of completed work will open 25 May, 6-8pm, and will run from 26 May – 17 June (Tuesday - Saturday, 11am-5pm) at 41 Elizabeth Street, 7th floor, New York, NY 10013.
