Small-scale paintings by Jiro Osuga
Overview
To coincide with Jiro Osuga’s monumental solo exhibition Departures, in which he transformed the 160 square metre Kingsland Road gallery space into an airport departure lounge, this presentation showcases a series of smaller-scale works centred around themes of aviation and travel.
Alongside distinctive paintings of plane windows and melancholic portraits of travellers, some of these works are interactive. Hinged panels and strings unfold varying narratives including a waving air traffic controller, a suitcase being packed and a plane leaving the runway.

Casting a critical and playful eye over every aspect of contemporary life, these smaller works reflect Osuga’s ambition to "create a painting that is a place: a complete world in and of itself."
