Bird/Search is part of the portfolio Bird, ten screenprints published in 1990 by Flowers Gallery, printed by artists Boyd & Evans at Advanced Graphics, London. Boyd & Evans’ photography is central to their creative process when creating prints and paintings. Photos are used as source material capturing moments of life that could not have been documented otherwise. The 1990s saw a shift away from the subject of life in the UK as the artists begun to travel internationally on research trips, obtaining new photos that fed into their practice. Additionally, technological developments allowed them to easily manipulate photos, draining colour from all but elements of the piece and increasing contrast to heighten effects of light hitting surfaces like water and foliage. Evidence of these developments can be seen in this series, as they continue to blur the lines between realism and illusion.
