Snapshot: ‘Spotlight on Michael Wolf’ Financial Times
"After a career spent capturing the high-rises of Hong Kong, it is fitting that the late Michael Wolf turned to the clouds for inspiration for his final collection. In Cheung Chau Sunrises, the urban jungle is swept aside and his trademark tessellated facades give way to sweeping, vividly coloured skyscapes. These dramatic images were the last project Wolf undertook before his death in 2019, as he sought to capture the view from his island home every morning for two years; with the lockdown now easing in Hong Kong, they are set to be exhibited as part of a wider retrospective of the German photographer’s work. For those of us still in isolation, of course, the longing for space in both his sunrises and his skyscrapers proves particularly poignant." - Chris Allnutt
‘Spotlight on Michael Wolf’ is showing at Flowers Gallery, Hong Kong from May 22 to July 25
