Flowers Gallery is pleased to announce the 24th edition of Artist of the Day, a vital West End exhibition programme selected by leading contemporary artists since 1983. The fast-paced, revolving two week exhibition schedule provides a platform for a selected group of artists, each presenting a one day solo exhibition at Flowers Gallery’s Mayfair location, with a programme of events taking place each day.

DAY FIVE: Miyako Narita selected by Richard Wilson RA. A one day exhibition will be held from 11am - 7pm at Flowers Gallery, Cork Street, London.

Refreshments will be served in the gallery 12-2pm. Please contact rsvp@flowersgallery.com to confirm your attendance.

I photograph anything that fascinates me in my everyday life normally where it is and how it is. Most of these captured moments are not set up, manipulated or controlled in anyway. Carried with me throughout the day, my camera records moments that I interpret as ‘fragments’ of my daily life. There are no rules in my practice. Photographing starts each morning at home and continues throughout the day wherever I am.

Point and click. Sounds simple until you consider what is framed and what might be outside of the framed at the point of clicking. And who of course is doing the clicking. Miyako Narita’s clicking is all about encountering fascinating fragments of everyday life. Her camera is a tool of connection between subject and self… a means by which we can observe Miyako’s vision of the world.

There seem no rules to her practice yet her Japanese background give each work a sense of Seijaku or energised calm.
