George Blacklock and Gary Oldman Slipping Glimpsers
Painter George Blacklock, and filmmaker / photographer Gary Oldman have for the past twenty-five years engaged in a creative dialogue, sharing their respective journeys through painting, acting, filmmaking and photography; scrutinizing each others work and encouraging the development of new ideas. Their work will be presented together for the first time at the Museo De Las Artes, Universidad De Guadalajara.
Throughout this discourse, common themes have emerged: the two artists explore the creative process as a quest to discover something unseen, located only through the process of production; and both examine the past through the works of other artists to determine their own position as makers.
The exhibition will be an important stopping off point in their creative journeys, to extend the conversation with others, and as they say: “to swap stories with friends; to collect supplies and support for the next trek; and to put into perspective the monsters in our path.”
The exhibition Slipping Glimpsers is organised on the occasion of the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL), which has invited the United Kingdom to be the Guest of Honour. As part of the 2015 Mexico / UK Dual Year, an extensive programme of activities has been prepared to introduce the Mexican public to the diverse cultural, artistic, educational and commercial output of Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland, and England.
