Friedemann Hahn The painter and poet as an adventurer

Literaturhaus Halle
6 September - 11 November 2019

Literaturhaus Halle present an exhibition of Friedemann Hahn's work on the occasion of the 70th birthday of the painter and poet in Germany. The exhibition brings together more than 70 paintings, drawings, etchings and objects from important phases of the artist's work, which will also be presented for the first time in Central Germany.

For Hahn, his pictorial work is a "painting journey", in which he explores the limits of the medium.

The figures in his motif world do not originate from the everyday with its bourgeois norms and useful routines, they are often risk takers, namely: adventurers, discoverers, gangsters, lovers, femmes fatales, artists, writers and painters.

Friedemann Hahn's painting feeds on the confrontation with Popart and Neo-Expressionism and leads him deep into the myth of Hollywood and the dream factory of European film. Hahn was a painter and poet with a boundless love for the moving image, the cinema and his dream figures.

Friedemann Hahn (b.1949), was awarded the most important German art prizes and scholarships; his works have been presented throughout Europe since 1973. Hahn also published numerous collections of poems, prose and texts on art.
