EXPOSURE Phillip King THE CONSORTIUM (1)

"For King Phillip (1934), the sculpture is the art most visible of all.Paradoxically, it is also a reality that escapes us. In a conversation with Samuel Gross, the English sculptor said: "There are many aspects invisible sculpture. Everything is so obvious that we must find the invisible. " The sculpture of King has a direct link with the sand. He tells how, during his youth, he used to seek the clay. Later, he would not hesitate to install the table its first workshop on the sand.

The conical shape of his iconic works of the 1960s, a direct result of reflections on the notion of elevation. Based on Brancusi and a modern history of sculpture, he develops a way to put the shapes against each other rather than stacked to obtain a vertical, what he called "standing up." Modernity of these forms will also be made possible by experimentation on materials, which lead to be one of the first to use fiberglass. '
