Nadav Kander 'Bodies' book featured on Creative Review
"Our blog post last year announced an exhibition of ten pieces from this particular series and explained how each image references a classical pose and the subjects are covered in marble dust to complete the sculptural illusion.
The 136 page, 388x278mm book, entitled Bodies. 6 Women. 1 Man, has been available to pre-order since early this year but has recently been published and is available in two editions. A case bound, hardback trade edition (€78, cover shown above) features a black cloth cover with a foil blocked finger smear, made by Kander himself, while a second edition, limited to just 100 copies (€980), features a unique hand-painted cover (shown, top).
"These personalised covers echo the application of the hand applied white paint and dust used on all of the nude bodies in the series," explains designer Simon Gofton of the approach.
The 100 limited edition books have an almost reverential quality: they are Japanese stab bound and have handmade, hardback covers. All are hand numbered and signed by Kander, and come housed in a linen-covered box which also includes two chromogenic prints. Plate pages are interleaved with heavy-weight translucent grey stock."
