Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year to be judged by Tai-Shan Schierenberg
Applications are now open for the popular television programme Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year. Presented by Joan Bakewell and Frank Skinner, the programme aims to discover and nurture portrait artists of all capabilities. We are delighted that Flowers Gallery artist Tai-Shan Schierenberg will be among the judging the panel, alongside Kathleen Soriano, former Head of Exhibitions at the Royal Academy and the National Portrait Gallery, and Kate Bryan, Head of Contemporary at the Fine Art Society. Shortlisted artists will be invited to attend one of six regional heats where they will be challenged to produce a portrait of a famous sitter. The grand final will take place at The National Portrait Gallery, where the judges will be joined by Sandy Nairne, Director of the institution. The series finalists will see their work exhibited at The National Portrait Gallery for one month and the winner will be awarded a £10,000 commission for the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, becoming part of its permanent collection. The competition will be filmed throughout Summer 2014 and broadcast in October. Apply before 1st May for the chance to win.
