Artist of the Day - Cordelia Beresford - Thursday 26th June
We are pleased to announce the 21st edition of Artist of the Day. This two week exhibition showcases the work of ten emerging artists chosen not by the gallery, but by established professional practitioners who have each nominated a talent of their choice.
Our fourth 2014 Artist of the Day is Cordelia Beresford, a photographer and film-maker selected by Claerwen James:
My starting point is an archive photograph, something from the past that is unsettling or moving in ways I can't yet figure out: often of women deemed mad, and historical representations of the female body on camera. From these I experiment with developing 'characters', performances and different camera techniques, both still and moving image, to arrive at my own scenarios whose imagery and disjointed narratives reflect dreams or the disordered nature of the subconscious. Cordelia Beresford
Beresford is an Australian artist and cinematographer of extraordinary power and lyricism whose work is unknown in Britain. Themes and images from her short films haunt my work. It's an honour to introduce her photographs to a new audience. Claerwen James
Cordelia will exhibit her work for one day only at our Cork Street Gallery space on Thursday 26th June.
Opening Hours: 11am - 7pm
Refreshments: 12 - 2pm
