Artist of the Day - Ciaran Wood - Monday 30th June
We are pleased to announce the 21st edition of Artist of the Day. This two week exhibition showcases the work of ten emerging artists chosen not by the gallery, but by established professional practitioners who have each nominated a talent of their choice.
Our sixth 2014 Artist of the Day is Ciaran Wood, a painter selected by Prouvost and Sons:
The work takes its material from a story of my great-grandfather, Harry 'kid' Duffy, an amateur boxer who left his home in Ireland for America during the 1920s and became light-featherweight champion of the mid-west. His story is re-told in fragments, where it's original context has grown and changed over the years. This information has been re-positioned alongside Irish superstitions surrounding displacement within the land. Ciarán Wood
The capacity of owning images, by looking and re-looking at a captured image from the past for a new reading, making it yours. Ciarán Wood works from personal historical footage, questioning its function of recording a moment, its framing decisions, and what was captured turning into fiction. Prouvost and Sons
