Jiro Osuga display at Flowers Gallery, Cork Street
An intimate display of Jiro Osuga oil paintings is now open on the lower ground floor of Flowers Gallery, Cork Street until Saturday 8 August, 2015. Having recently showcased his work in a major exhibition at Flowers Gallery New York, this display is an opportunity to view recent pieces by the Japanese artist. Osuga is a painter of contemporary life, and is fascinated by what he describes as “the maddening richness and complexity of the World”. Exploring everything from day-to-day activities to dreams and nightmares, he draws upon his life experiences, both in his native Tokyo and London, to create what is cumulatively a complete microcosmic stage. Large-scale paintings are showcased alongside Osuga's signature smaller hinged works, which unfold mini narratives. These humorous images often have an underlying sense of melancholy which Osuga likens to “the gulf between the heightened fantasy on the glittering stage and the spectators in the darkness of the auditorium.”
