Peter Howson film Prophecy screening and Q&A at the ICA + more UK screenings

15 June, 4:00pm – 12:00am

Following its international premiere at Hot Docs Toronto and Scottish premiere at Glasgow Film Festival, Itch Films production Prophecy will screen at the ICA, London followed by a Q&A with director Charlie Paul and producer Lucy Paul.

An intimate exploration of a single oil painting, revealing the motive and techniques behind the creation of Scottish artist Peter Howson’s monumental Prophecy. With a remarkably acute focus, the film follows the painting’s creation, exhibition and sale, as it travels from the artist’s studio in Glasgow to New York, before returning to London to enter the collection of a private buyer.

Peter Howson has established a formidable reputation as one of his generation's leading figurative painters. Many of his paintings derive inspiration from the streets of Glasgow, where he was brought up. He is renowned for his penetrating insight into the human condition, and his heroic portrayals of the mighty and meek. His art is described by Robert Heller as "founded in Humanity, especially the human face".
