Edward Burtynsky's Lithium Mines #2 acquired by The Metropolitan Museum of Art
Lithium Mines #2 is part of Burtynsky's photographic series Anthropocene, which documents the scars of human-altered landscapes. The acquired work depicts the graduating tonal grids of turquoise and green-gold formed by the expansive lithium extraction ponds on the salt flats of the Atacama desert, some of the largest known reserves in the world. This is the second work in the museum's collection.
