This exhibition of photographic works made by Janelle Lynch in Amagansett, New York during 2022-2023 follows the critically-acclaimed solo show from the series at our Kingsland Road, London, space in 2023.
On view will be cyanotypes, a cameraless 19th century photographic process, of botanical and wildlife remains and Lynch's own body through which she affirms the fundamental value of all life in its various manifestations, including the afterlife. The unique works are evidence of physical existence and, as abstractions in hues of blue and white, also suggest the ethereal world. Additionally, large format photographs related to the surrounding landscape will accompany Janelle's cyanotype pieces.
About the work, Martin Barnes, Senior Curator, Photography, at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London wrote, "Her practice embraces a form of close looking that is cumulative, enriching and transformative. The visual elegance of her images is equalled by the expressive presence of the artist that we sense behind them." Barnes' complete essay can be read here. (This link opens in a new tab)..
