Ayumi Matsuba is a Japanese artist who creates semi-abstract paintings centred around the theme of nature and landscape. She earned MFA from New York Academy of Art in 2010 with an emphasis in painting. Her paintings have been exhibited in New York, Miami, and London. Currently, she lives and works in Singapore.
This painting was originally based on a beach scene from my family vacation. The original sketch didn’t include any figures. I was intending to focus on the existence of ocean. However, as the painting progressed, a few abstract figures emerged, which looked like they were dancing. Although it was different from my initial plan, I decided to keep them and titled the painting “Dance Party”. As the result, I think the painting matched the fun feeling we had on the beach that day.
