A gentler, measured movement took over this diptych.
While deep reds( cadmium reds, scarlet, alizarin, maroons) persisted for some time, the fluidity of white pigments took over with equal rights and gradually demanded the leading role. A collision of strong colours is packed together deep into the foundation of the work, gradually building form and fullness, and ultimately the unity of the painting’s structure after unending revisions. Forms that have exited and are now disposed of and veiled, still reverberate and actively participate in building this image. New identities developed and took their place within the painting more or less concurrently. The more open drawing, built-in with my scraper, returned towards the final stages of the work and gave my structure an openness that is singular to this painting from the series. - Aida Tomescu, 2024
