This nude self-portrait is by British artist Glenys Barton, best known for her distinctive sculptures of the human form. Working largely in ceramic, Barton pays meticulous attention to the surface quality of each work, experimenting with smoked surfaces and cracked glazes and the colour and patination of Bronze.
Glenys Barton was born in Stoke on Trent. She graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1971 and has been represented by Flowers Gallery since 1974. Barton has exhibited widely in Britain and abroad and her work is included in many important collections including The National Portrait Gallery, London. S. Barton's sculpture is featured in the screen adaptation of Ian McEwan's Enduring Love, which starred Daniel Craig, Samantha Morton and Bill Nighy, portraits of whom she was commissioned to make for the film.
