The 2012 recipient of the BP Portrait Award from London's National Portrait Gallery, Aleah Chapin lives and paints in the Pacific Northwest, where the people and place of her home are the foundation of her work.
This year has been so difficult for so many of us. We have had to entirely change the way we live and interact with each other. With these paintings, I wanted to create an intimate space where beauty can rest, where it can blossom, in spite, or perhaps because of, the darkness it has grown from. Aleah Chapin, 2020
